SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PURPLE HEART
By Sandi Powelson, 2004
VAVS Representative, LAMOPH
Carl T. Hayden Medical Center, Phoenix, Arizona
I happened at a regular meeting,
When I spied this sign upon a podium,
It read, "All Gave Some, Some Gave All."
As the weeks went by, I pondered deeply,
When I walked the halls of old Carl T. Hayden,
And, when I spoke with broken veterans.
Thinking, meditating the words suddenly expanded -
A "revelation" one would say,
As if the troops had finally landed.
"All Gave Some," and "Some Gave All,"
"We care about you, that's why we're here, too!"
The Purple Heart has set a standard.
We stand in the gap and give them comfort!
We help our vets and fly their banners.
Purple Heart means valiant heart,
Courageous heart with great compassion.
Purple Heart stands bold and brave,
Our love of God and country will not fade!
Purple Heart is here to stay,
Offering patriots hope for each new day.
