Hi! Spring is here and warmer weather is sure to follow. Hope you are prepared for it. It's time to change officers once more. During April we are open for nominations for all chairs. If you would like to be involved, all posts from Commander, 1st Vice, 2nd Vice, Adjutant, Service Officer, Sgt-at Arms, through Chaplain, etc. are up for election. The election is scheduled for the May meeting on Wednesday the 20th. Send your nominations to Post #64 on Cheyenne Drive.
The annual Easter Parade was held on March 26th and I'm proud to announce that our Color Guard, comprised of Bob Bowden, Hank Johnson, Hank Ubowski, Paul Cherep, Oblander, Kubiak, and Bob Fisher, once again came home with the first prize for best Color Guard. Trophy can be seen at the Rec Center. Meanwhile, doing the hard work, setting up the tables and dishing out the hot dogs, we must give credit to Rose Cherep, in charge, and helping with the cooking was George Pogue, Jim Eshelman, Gus Salvo, Debi Munchback, Jay Burrows and any others I may have missed. You all did a hell of a good job, Thank you.
The American Legion, Department of Arizona has been sending High School Juniors from schools in Arizona to Boys State every year. This will be their 59th year. Post#64 will be sponsoring one junior form Desert Vista HS and one from Mountain Pointe HS for this session. They will be trained by participating in classes on the workings of the government.
April and May are two of our busiest months. April 1st is Patriots Day at Akimel Aal Middle School. The school puts on a fine program for all veterans with cookies and coffee afterward. It's free and all veterans are invited. Post #64 will be presenting the colors for the opening festivities at 8:30 AM. We will be presenting colors and awards at Altadena Middle School on Friday April 29th at 2:45 PM. April 9th the woodshop is having their annual pancake breakfast and at the same time the Rec Center is having tables set up to display all the activities that are available at the Center. The Legion will have a display to show our activities for the coming year and hope that we will be able to convince any newcomer to join. We certainly need new members for our color guard.
Membership
We have reached our goal for the year and are now at 100%. We were very lucky to reach it for unfortunately we had a rash of veterans passing away this year, I hope that the trend is over. Keep asking the newcomers to join. We welcome Dan O'Brien, Larry Fraker, Don Robertson as members.
Sick: No one has called in sick but I know there are some out there. We can't help if we are not notified. Do you hear me, Boettcher, Digges and any others I may not know about?
Our Next meeting will be April 13, 2005 at the Rec Center at 3 PM. Try to make it and meet your fellow members.
