February 2005
Hi!! Back again with news of activities scheduled for February. Try to make some of them. It will keep you active enough to stay warm.
Saturday, February 19: Post #84 is having the Iwo Jima Landing 60th Anniversary Parade and Ceremonies. Ceremonies will be at the Mathew B. Juan, Ira Hayes Memorial Park in Sacaton, AZ at 9 AM. There will be a parade and massing of the colors in the park. This will give you a chance to take photographs of the various color guards. There will be lunch at St. Peters Mission provided by the Auxiliary Unit #84 followed by entertainment.
Easter Parade on 48th Street is on March 26th this year. Our color guard will be involved and our Sergeant-at-Arms, Bob Bowden, has scheduled practice time. This year there will be a float by the Rec Center following us. There will be Hot Dogs and Soda afterward at the Rec Center. At 1 PM, the Akimel A-al Middle School band will perform in the main hall. These youngsters are real good so put it on your calendar for a good time. Wives and children are invited. See the parade and enjoy the music and food afterward.
Membership
We have not as yet reached our goal in membership for 2005, there are still members who have not yet paid their dues for 2005. National By-Laws read; Article IV, Section IV. "A member whose dues for the current year have not been paid by January 1st shall be classed as delinquent. If his dues are paid on or before February 1st, he shall be automatically reinstated. Do not wait for a letter, but send your dues now to American Legion Post #64, c/o Ahwatukee Recreation Center, 5001 Cheyenne Drive, Phoenix, AZ, 85044-1706 or put your dues in the veterans box at the Rec Center. I have underlined the heading of this letter to remind those affected.
An order has been sent in for new uniforms. A question has been raised, how about used uniforms? If you have a used uniform you no longer want, let me know and I will try to recoup some of your expenses by passing it on to a new member. I now have a cap and blouse that is for sale. The cap size is 7-3/8 and blouse size is 16/16-1/2. If interested call Charles Roloff at 893-3374.
Our next meeting will be February the 16th at the Rec Center at 3 PM. Try to make it and meet your fellow members.
