Ahwatukee American Legion Post #64
ARC Veterans Club

October 2004

Hi! Back again with more news, (Past and Future) of Post #64's activities. We have lots of fun and if you haven't participated in any, please make it a point to do so.

For all World War II veterans, Memorial Day of May 29th was very personal. Some members of Post #64 were able to attend the event in Washington DC and enjoyed every moment. For those of us unable to attend the event in DC, we had intended to have a memorial at the REC Center but unfortunately events eliminated that thought. A former member of the Post, Les Tenney, who had moved to a retirement center in California (La Costa Glen) did indeed have a memorial and was kind enough to send a copy of the event. We will show this well-done memorial at our November 17th meeting. Everyone is invited.

Incidentally, our travel club is planning a trip to Washington DC. This is a good chance to see the Memorial without the crowds. Will keep you informed.

Membership

We have reached 60% of our year 2005 membership goal. If you don't have a card for year 2005, dues can be paid at this time as we are trying to hit 100% by December 1st. Our membership is still growing but there are still veterans at the Rec Center that are not members of our Post. Make it a point to ask them to join.

We will be performing the Evolution of the American Flag at Akimel MS on October 29th at 8:30 AM. If you are in the vicinity everyone is welcome to attend. Akimel MS is at 2720 East Liberty Lane, Phoenix. For those who haven't seen it, it is a story of the American Flag and its changes form the Crusades to our modern times.

Post Everlasting

I always hate this heading but I'm sorry to say that we lost Fidelis "Bud" Bollig on September 15th. Also we lost Donald Eaton in September. Our heartfelt sorrow goes out to the families and our best wishes.

FYI

The Korea Defense Service Medal is not yet available. The Department of Defense is currently reviewing the best way to expeditiously award the Korea Defense Service Medal as provided for in the Fiscal Year 2003 National Defense Authorization Act. It may be several months before the medal is available for issue.

Our regularly scheduled Post #64 meeting will be Wednesday October 20th at 3 PM. Remember the November 17th meeting will have a movie on the WWII Memorial.

BYE!!
