Ahwatukee American Legion Post #64
ARC Veterans Club

September 2004

Hi!!! Here I am back with more news of Post #64, most of which is true and interesting. If you stayed in the Valley this summer, you're glad this September letter means cooler weather is coming. I you missed the July 4th bash the presentation of the Evolution of the American Flag at the Recreation Center being staged by a new group was well received by all in attendance. Thanks fellows and girls.

All our programs for the Legion's fiscal year 2004 were outstanding. Post # 64 received a commendation certificate for an all time HIGH in membership form the American Legion National Dept. Post #64 Commander George Pogue received a certificate and commendation for this all time high performance.

Membership: The American Legion has started its year 2005 membership campaign as of July 1st, 2004. We know this is very confusing. The National Legion year runs form July to July. So even though your 2004 card is good until the end of this year, you received your dues notice for 2005 in July/August. We encourage you to pay early, but if you wish to wait until year's end, those notices will keep coming every couple of months until dues are paid. PLEASE ALSO NOTE when you pay your dues you may receive one or possibly two more notices for 2005 form National. This is because of the time delay in processing memberships and also because those notices are printed at least a month or more before they are mailed. So once you have your 2005 card in hand, you may ignore any more dues notices. Our membership is at an all time high but we can still use new members for our Color and Honor Guard, let's become active.

The enclosed insert gives recent news that may be of interest to you. I thought the article on the oath of Citizenship was very interesting. Imagine being able to decide if you want to fight or not if we have an all out war.

Sick Call: I miss seeing lots of faces and wish they get well soon. Do you hear me - Gil Vonk, Charley Rosenkrantz, John Digges and others.

Our regularly scheduled Post #64 meetings will resume at ARC on Wednesday, September 15th at 3 PM, and will continue on every 3rd Wednesday of the month through June. Each meeting will include a short program such as an interesting local speaker. The September program has not been finalized, but we hope it will be of interest to all.

Like to dance? Remember that there is a dance every month at the Recreation Center. Not tickets are sold at the door. If interested, call Charles Roloff at 480-893-3374.
