May 2004
Hi! At the monthly May 19th meeting there will be an election and new officers of Post #64 will be installed. Nominations are still open and can be announced at the meeting. Be there and vote for your favorite person. Our Section 12 Commander Bruce Conklin will be on had to install the officers selected.
We have a busy May coming up and can use help for Public Relations. Please volunteer.
Past and coming activities:
PastApril 2nd, Akimel MS had their annual Patriots Day and we opened the festivities with Post #64 presenting the Colors.
April 10th, at the Easter Parade, I'm happy to report Post #64 again received a trophy for the best Color Guard. Congratulations to Bob Bowden, Hank Johnson, Bob Fisher, Don Simmons, Paul Cherup, H Oblander, and Ray Kubiak.
The Ahwatukee Firemen carrying the large American Flags made an impressive backdrop for the Color Guard maneuvers. All in All a fine day, if you missed it, see you next year.
April 17th we were at Project Challenge to present the Evolution of the American Flag. Project Challenge is a program for school dropouts run by the State National Guard.
Coming up
May 6th at Centennial MS at 7 PM presenting an Americanism award to a student picked by the school. We will also be presenting Colors for the graduation class.
May 10th, Mountain Point at 6:30 PM an awards ceremony, Ralph Garlow will be presenting an Americanism award to a student picked by the High School. Bob Bowden will also be presenting Colors to open up the proceedings.
May 18th, Akimel MS, an awards ceremony at 6:30 PM.
May 21st, Altadena MS, an awards ceremony at 2:45 PM.
May 24th, Altadena MS, posting Colors at 5:00, 6:30, and 8:00 PM.
May 28th, Desert Vista HS, 7:00 PM presenting an Americanism Award.
May 29-30-31st we will be outside Ace Hardware store at 48th Street and Warner Road between 11 AM and 2 PM. We will be serving hot dogs and cokes and performing a Memorial Day Service on the 31st. As this is our only fund raising venture, we need help to make it a success.
Whew! Do we need help? You bet-cher! Please volunteer.
Sick Call: All our prayers and heartfelt wishes go out to Charley Rosenkrantz, John Digges and everyone who has not reported in.
Membership
We have reached our goal for 2004. In spite of this we still have a few members who have not renewed their memberships as yet. Please send it in as soon as possible. Thank you.
Our next meeting is May 19th and our speaker will be Mel Zacko, he is on the State Cemetery Committee. If you have any questions on cemetery burials and claims now is the time to attend your Post meeting.
Remember! American Legion Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of every month at the Rec Center at 3 PM. There are no meetings in July and August as attendance declines during the hot weather. We are still active during this time but no meetings.
