Ahwatukee American Legion Post #64
ARC Veterans Club
April 2004
Hi! Spring is here and warmer weather is sure to follow. Hope you are prepared for it. It's time to change officers once more. During April we are open for nominations for all chairs. If you would like to be involved, all posts from Commander, 1st Vice, 2nd Vice, Adjutant, Service Officer, Sgt.-at-Arms, through Chaplain, etc. are up for election. The election is scheduled for the May meeting on Wednesday the 19th. Send your nominations to Post #64 on Cheyenne Drive.
April and May are two of our busiest months. April 2nd is Patriot Day at Akimel A-al Middle School. The school puts on a fine program for all veterans with cookies and coffee afterward. It's free and all veterans are invited. Post #64 will be presenting colors for the opening of festivities at 9:15 AM.
The Easter Parade will be held on April 10th on 48th Street starting form Warner Road to Elliot starting at 10 AM. At the end of the parade our contingent will march into the parking lot of the Rec. Center and disband. There will be coffee, Coke, and Hot Dogs while you relax. All new members come and see your Post in action. Wives and children are invited, so come and enjoy yourself.
The American Legion, Department of Arizona has been sending High School Juniors from schools in Arizona to Boys State every year. This will be their 58th year. Post #64 will be sponsoring two juniors from Desert Vista H. S. for this session. They will be trained by participating in classes on the workings of the government. We thank Colin Dunnigan for his support of this worthy cause.

For all those members with a computer, we now have a web site. Our monthly newsletter will not only be in the mail but will also be on the web. If you misplace or lose your letter, just boot up the computer. I know the above is a long web site address but just do it once then click save and enter it in your favorites. From then on just one click on your favorites will bring it up. This web site is courtesy of member Tommy Smith.
For our April 21st meeting our Speaker will be Dr. Paul Blackburn. His subject will be Naval Aviation Surgery. This should be really interesting and everyone is invited to attend. You need not be a veteran to attend this meeting. Bring your wives.
Membership
We have reached 120% of our goal for 2004. In spite of this we still have a few members who have not renewed their memberships as yet. Please send in as soon as possible. Thank you.
Sick Call: No one has called in sick, but I know there are some out there. Please let us know if we can help. My sympathy to Gil Vonk for the loss of his loved one.
Bye!
