Ahwatukee American Legion Post #64
ARC Veterans Club

March 2004

Hi everyone! Here we are back with more news. Our Post #64 is in District 12. District 12 is hosting their annual picnic on March 18th. The picnic is free so bring your wives and children. It is being hosted by Post #65 at Baseline and 16th street on the north side of South Mountain.

Easter is fast approaching and plans for Post #64 to lead the parade [as usual] are in progress. April 10th is the day and the parade route is on 48th St. from Warner Road north to Cheyenne Drive and into the Recreation Center for our contingent. It begins at 10 AM. This year we will again have the Akimel Middle School band marching with us and then they will be in concert at the Rec. Center from noon to 1 PM. In the meantime, volunteers will be serving hot dogs and cokes. So come one, come all and join the fun and see your Post Color Guard in action. Everyone is invited.

It is time for Boys State again. Every year Post #64 sends four boys to NAU to study and learn how our government operates. Two candidates are selected from Mountain Pointe HS and two from Desert Vista HS. They reside on campus from June 7th through June 13th. You will find additional information in the enclosed letter - this was part of the mailing and is not posted here.

Our membership has hit 100% of our goal for 2004. We now have 136 members. A monthly newsletter is sent to each member to keep them posted of our activities. On behalf of the post I would like to offer a warm welcome to new members Christopher Parish and Joseph Stewart. We would like them to become involved in our activities. The Rec. Center has monthly dances. Ask about it if you would like to attend at some future date.

Post Everlasting

I always hate to type this report. I regret to report that we lost Charles Peppler and Quentin Campbell this month. Quentin Campbell had a full military funeral at the National Cemetery on Cave Creek Road in Phoenix.

Our regular meeting will be March the 17th at 3 PM, the 3rd Wednesday of the month. Our speaker will be Jack Sweeney on his "Trials and tribulations in the Army," try not to miss it, it should be interesting. If you were not at the last meeting, you missed an informative talk by Ms. Kathy Bucci of Project Challenge. We hope to have her back again.

Everyone should not miss Patriot Day at Akimel Middle School on April 2nd at 8:30 AM, 2720 East Liberty Lane. Liberty Lane is a short distance south of Chandler Blvd. They put on a fine show with cake and drinks afterward.

Sick Call: No one has reported sick but I know there are some with a touch of the Flu. Get better fast. It was nice to see Dick Downing and Bob Nelson at the last meeting back from their touch with bad health. I want to see Gil Vonk at the next meeting.

Bye!!!!
